Huh. A second post about money.

I ran across this in BoingBoing today: http://jtaplin.wordpress.com/2008/06/14/fiscally-responsible-john-mccain...

Apparently, John McCain has a higher net worth than Barack Obama, most of that worth is from his wife, and they have quite the credit card bill.

Barack, on the other hand, has about 1/10 of the net worth of McCain, but earned it himself, and although the article said nothing about what he owes on credit cards, he has put a size able amount away for his kids' college fund.

Hm. I wonder who will manage the country's finances better?

*Quick note: I'm not here to push a political agenda, though I will make no secret that I'm leaning heavily democrat this election, as I do most elections. I just wanted to make an observation.

Are you serious?

Seriously, this is about as "non-news" as a story can get. Have either of you looked at these financial disclosure forms? This information really has nothing to do with the ability of a person to run the country financially. However, since you brought it up, let me make a few points.

1-True, Cindy Mccain is worth about 100 million dollars. She is the now the chair of a company her father founded. She got most of her money from this company, and wise investments.
2-If someone has a net-worth of 100 million dollars, 250,000 in credit card debt is a drop in the hat. The New York Times article that first ran this story didn't state anything about this debt being carried over from month to month. It could have been debt that was paid off within the month. This is not uncommon for people with such a high net worth.
3-Obama has earned a lot of money, and it was self made. Last year he raked in just over 4 million dollars. Almost all every penny was from book royalties. He has authored 2 non-fiction books, and 1 children's book. Not surprisingly, his book sales have spiked since he announced his presidential candidacy.
4-I have read 3/4 of his most recent book, "The Audacity of Hope", and I continue to wade through the empty rhetoric (the very thing he accuses everyone else of), and silly promises.
5-I find it interesting that the New York Times article (original source of the story) states how much debt Cindy McCain has (leaving out any debt that Obama has), and then states that Obama has saved some money for his children's college. At 4 million last year, putting $200,000 away for their daughters college is pretty weak.

I really get tired of the unconditional love that people have for Barack Obama. No matter what information they find about Obama, they will still love him, and I don't really know why. I ask many people why they would like to vote for Obama. The answer is inevitably "Something has got to change". I'm still trying to figure out what positive change he is suggesting. I have read his web site, and I find nothing that hasn't been proposed before. I read of more government programs that will always increase taxes (BTW a tax on "the rich" will always trickle down to the lower-class citizens). I read that he promises to end the war on terrorism, and use the money that is allocated to the war to build roads and bridges. The funny thing is that the money that is spent on the war is money BORROWED from other countries! We can't use that money for roads after the war. Barack knows this, but he is willing to make promises in order to get votes.

If you really want to know who to vote for this election year, read the words from the candidates, read their books, read their websites, listen to their speeches and pick the person who best fits what you think should happen with the country. Unfortunately, you can't trust the media for solid information anymore. They twist just about anything they get their hands on.

Anyway, I just needed to vent. No hard feelings.

and yet another quick note...

I've pretty much given up on avoiding creating more echo in the internets. If I see something I wanna blog about, then dammit, I'm gonna blog about it.

Oh Yeah

If I see something I wanna blog about, then dammit, I'm gonna blog about it.

Yay! Glad to hear that.
