Book Club - "Never Eat Alone," Ch. 0 - Jeff is taking up Jake's Slack

Jeff's Never Eat Alone - Catch UpNever Eat AloneHi, Jeff here. Dunno if any of you guys remember, but a while back, Jake was doing some posts about the book Never Eat Alone by Kieth Ferazzi, and that kinda dropped off. I'm here to pick up where he left off.

It's been a while since there was any mention of Never Eat Alone, so I think I'm gonna start off with a quick post about the story so far before I jump in where Jake left off.

  • Chapter One: Stresses the importance of networks. Basically, nobody gets anywhere without somebody. (Jake's Post)
  • Chapter Two: About what you give to and get from your network. It stresses not expecting anything in return for your services to people in your network, because what goes around comes around. (Jake's Post)
  • Chapter Three: About focus. You can have all the ambition, all the talent, all the skills in the world, but if you don't have an idea of what to do with it, you'll get nowhere, or at least, nowhere you want to be. (Jake's Post)
  • Chapter Four: Where we finally get down to some nitty gritty: building your network. Specifically, when to do it, which is all the time. The book strongly emphasizes building your network when you don't have to, because if you just go network building when you need something, you come off as desperate. People would much rather meet a person who is comfortable with himself and his situation than someone looking for a solution to a problem. (Jake's Post

And that is where Jake left off. I expect I'll be getting a post written about chapter five soon.
